Jay started photography at the young age of 12, when his school offered an evening class in developing photo paper. Shortly after he inherited his grandfather's darkroom equipment, allowing him to process negatives and enlarge prints at home. A very successful apprenticeship in Film and Video Engineering brought him to Geyer Berlin in 1991, where he stayed until he started a position as Telecine Colourist at Studio Hamburg in '94. In 1999 he took a position in London at Todd-AO in Camden, and a year later became a full-time freelancer. Jay is influenced by all strands of the creative arts: Piet Mondiran, Mario Testino, Peter Lik, Steely Dan, Chick Corea, Stefan Gwildis and many others. When he met his partner in 2003, their joint love for colour lead to to their first serious body of work, the famous Light Paintings using Kinetic Photography.
