Our collection of Maggie Cousins original art for sale is inspired by volcanoes and their energy and power. This original painting has been split over 2 canvases and is made from acrylic and mixed media. Ground pumice stone, which comes from volcanic rock, is added to the paint to create texture and a slight 3D effect which is more interesting than flat colour. The artist then paints the textured surfaces with metallic paints which catch the light.

Maggie's source of inspiration for her paintings, which she describes as ‘abstract landscapes’, is volcanoes. She's fascinated by the power and energy they hold, being responsible for creating our land masses so long ago. Unlike the landscapes we see above the Earth's surface, these are landscapes that are hidden from view deep under our feet, landscapes that are created by nature's activity underground, affecting and influencing what happens above ground. Through her paintings, Maggie is trying to connect with nature and capture the energy that exists beneath our feet. It is this energy that is central to all of her work and she continually strives to capture it on canvas. She likes to work in relief using strong colour, which allows her to create something that is more alive and dynamic, adding a sculptural dimension, often so heavily textured it casts shadows.
