Mike Shepherd was born in London in 1964. At the age of 16 he acquired his first camera and started taking pictures of landscapes at home and during his travels abroad. In 1989 he majored in Religious Studies at Lancaster University, focusing on oriental mythology and art, graduating with first class honours in 1992. After graduating, he taught photography, digital imaging, and digital art at Lancaster University and Kendal Art College for several years before embarking on a full time career as a landscape photographer. Mike comments on his work: "I have always appreciated simplicity and directness in many photographers' works, and choose to keep my compositions simple, communicative, and minimal. Uncomplicated subject matter, presence of narrative, and the balancing of subject and space are the defining hallmarks of my work”.
